A little about me
Visual Artist Ashby Beckner is a SCAD graduate with a BFA in Fine Art Photography. Throughout her childhood, she was drawn to photography and inspired by nature and its ever-changing state. Shortly after starting middle school, she began to suffer from daily severe chronic migraines, which debilitated her and prevented her from leaving her bed. She still suffers to this day. As she suffered, she found that the only comfort was using her pain to create beautiful art and narratives.
Using the sensations and visual disturbances of her migraines and combining them with nature, she can create a visual world and narrative. To create the perfect narrative, Ashby has created illustrations, paintings, fashion designs, short films, and photography. When documenting her pain, she uses a facade to create beautiful pieces to illustrate the dark gravity of her pain and mental health. She loves to incorporate color, lost objects, religion, and cultural aspects into her work. Ashby is detailed and precise when picking out her subjects and can spend up to hours fine-tuning them. She challenges viewers to go beyond the surface level of the meaning and dive deep into the narratives, and how it can relate to their life. After Ashby graduates, she wants to continue creating her art, publishing her own photo books, including a migraine book, and eventually creating installation art.
